About Dr. Gentile

Michael A. Gentile, DPM, FACFAS, founded Portland Foot & Ankle Institute in 2018 with the mission to restore function and improve the quality of life for people in and around Portland, Oregon, through listening, education, and a dedication to excellence.

Dr. Gentile is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot, rearfoot, and reconstructive ankle surgery — a distinction held by only about one-third of all foot and ankle surgeons.

With a true passion for his specialty, Dr. Gentile is also the founder and director of the Portland Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. This fellowship attracts candidates from the leading foot and ankle surgery residencies in the United States. He also co-designed an innovative foot and ankle plating system and serves on the surgeon advisory board for Flower Orthopedics and Tyber Medical orthopedic companies.

After graduating with honors from the California School of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California, Dr. Gentile completed a three-year residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Gentile firmly believes that health care is only successful when his patients’ wellbeing is his singular focus. He’s dedicated to continuing his own medical training as well as advancing the skills of his peers by giving frequent lectures and surgical workshops across the nation. As a nationally recognized leader and educator in sports medicine and arthroscopy, Dr. Gentile has work published in several peer-reviewed textbooks and journals.
